Around these parts, I'm known as KB1VLZ. I have an Amateur Extra Class license and have been interested in many forms of communication for quite some time. This is a wonderful hobby, with so much to learn.
Of course, some of the first questions to come up relate to my shack. My primary radio is an Elecraft K3 with the Elecraft P3 panadapter. The K3 is configured with the internal 100 watt amplifier and internal antenna tuner. There are other goodies in there as well, with more to add in the future. I purchased the K3 and P3 as kits. Both were easy to assemble. Having built the kits, I have a pretty good awareness of the internals and the satisfaction of knowing I assembled the rig. The Ameritron 811H is occasionally warmed up to add a little power to the mix. I have an Icom 2100H for 2 meter FM work. It's a third-hand radio that works fine for local repeaters and simplex. There is also a dual band rig digipeating for ARPS users in the area.
I have a few antennas up, and more in the works. The primary antenna is a homebrew 80M dipole up around 90 feet. There is also a hex beam at around 40 feet. Combined with the K3 and internal tuner, I've made contacts with many stations around the world. My primary 2M antenna is a Ringo Ranger II and can be switched between the K3 and Icom 2100H.
